Bee Ready - Survival Kits

UX & UI Design for an online emergency kits' web store
Goals and Objectives
A platform designed for users to create an emergency survival plan in case of a natural disaster or an emergency. Bee Ready will provide option of ordering a pre-curated kit which can be customized by adding or deleting items. In addition, users can also opt for a yearly membership that allows them to auto renew expiring products in the kits.
Project Overview
Life is very busy and it gets very hard to find time for the most important things. One of the thing is an emergency survival kit. It is something everyone needs and hope never to have to use it. Being prepared means having your own food, water and other important supplies to last for at least 72 hours. The goal is to make it easy for users to have a fully functional kit at all times. A responsive website with pre-fixed kits and a large inventory for add on products and an app for users to manage subscription or track expiration of the products. Also, with changing life style needs/requirements change as well. This service will make it super easy for users to maintain the kit. It will track user’s life events based on the information provided at the time of sign up. It will make suggestions, example – changes in diaper sizes or types of food baby can eat.

Simon McCallister had been doing well but recently the sales number started going down. They have been following the same business strategies for over a decade but now they do not seem to be working. William is concerned about growth of the company and wants to create a strategic plan for next 10 years with short-term and long-term goals for all the teams.

Age - 27 years
Profession - Co-founder of a Start up. Software Engineer.
Daniel is a Software engineer by profession. Recently, he founded a startup with some friends. Their product is tested and ready to go. He also has a marketing plan. Daniel is concerned about the company's long-term plan. Since, none of the founders have any business experience they are considering to hire a professional who can help them build a strategic plan.

Usage scenario

A user will click 'find a kit' on the home page, enter number of family members, will specify kids (if any), hit go. Relevant results will pop up on the screen with different options. User will click on the desired option and check details of the package. They can customize the kit by adding or deleting the items. Price of the kit will change accordingly. User will add the finalized kit to the cart for checkout. User can add more 'add ons' by going to the add ons page and add them to the cart. At the checkout user will have option of signing up for the membership to auto renew items when they expire.

Lessons Learnt

  • Learning consumers needs - Kit creation needs extensive research. Every user/family needs are different.
  • Simplifying the navigation.
